CHARLOTTE NC - 2022 BARNARD FAMILY REUNION
2022 MARKS THE 44TH YEAR OF OUR FAMILY REUNION!
"That on the 1st day of January, A.D. 1863, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the executive government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom..." (Excerpt from President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation)
That was powerful news for our earliest known ancestor, Grandmother Judy Barnard. She was born into slavery 203 years ago (1819 -1904) in Athens, GA. Since our first reunion in 1978, we've been blessed with the birth of three new generations and have witnessed many marriages, graduations and transitions. God willing, in July 2022, the descendants of Mother Judy's sons, Anthony and Wesley Barnard, will gather for the FIRST time in Charlotte, NC to celebrate our heritage!
